MLK Day of Service in Portland

For some, Martin Luther King, Jr. day is a day off, a chance to sleep in, or an opportunity to catch up on your latest show. Why not change it up this year and do something that will truly honor the civil rights leader? MLK is a Day of Service and through the Human Rights Campaign, you can help out the Q Center and New Avenues for Youth to contribute to service projects that benefit homeless and at-risk youth in the community. There are several ways you can help:

Donate
By January 17, you can donate much-needed items like toiletries, sleeping bags, backpacks, flashlights, and clothing. For a full list of items, including drop-off locations and hours, click here.

Volunteer
On January 18, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, you can volunteer to help assemble donated items into care packages. This event will be held at New Avenues for Youth located at 1220 SW Columbia Street.
