A Sweet Treat for Your Oscars Party

Food & Wine:

Oscars night is this Sunday, February 28, at 5:30 PST and if you love red carpets, golden statues, and all things sparkly as much as we do, then why not make it your excuse to throw an Oscars party in your apartment? It’s a great way to gather with your friends and family, munch on popcorn, and root for your favorite films and celebrities.

Wondering what kind of food to serve your guests? No Oscars night would be complete without a classic popcorn snack! Ice Cream Bon Bon Pops are a great snack that’s easy to make for when you need a savory snack for your guests.

All you need to do is use a half-ounce scoop to scoop your favorite ice cream into small balls. Then, roll these balls into crushed popcorn. Last, place a stick into each ball and that’s it! You can leave the pops on parchment paper in the freezer or serve them right away! Your guests will love the amount of flavor in each bite!

Tips for Soundproofing for Your Apartment

Whether it’s rush-hour traffic or your neighbor’s dog, it can be a real struggle to adjust to a noisy environment. Want to soundproof your apartment without spending a fortune? We have some ideas we think you might like.

One way to reduce sound is to reinvent the fabrics in your home. Rugs, especially shaggy ones, are great for absorbing sound. Even if you have wall-to-wall carpet, layering a variety of different textured rugs is great for adding color and cancelling unwanted noise. Don’t forget about the curtains! Soundproof curtains will not only help you to reduce noise pollution, but it can also help you get a great night’s sleep! Soundproof curtains use a special coating to block noise and light. Whatever your budget, there are a variety of textures and styles to choose from.

For those of you looking to soundproof, even more, head to your local hardware store and you’ll find no damage weather stripping foam tape which is perfect for the tops and sides of door frames. “Door Sweeps” also work well at the bottom of the door and will reduce the amount noise coming in. You’ll be surprised at how much this inexpensive solution reduces that outside noise.
